There are certain basic principles to insurance, but every company is not going to have the same procedures. Be careful not to assume that one company's viewpoint or interpretation applies to all companies.
Please remember these basic guidelines:
- Not all companies use the same payment or billing procedures.
- All companies do not interpret coverage the same policy coverage and terms
- Two conflicting statements may be absolutely true-if applied to different companies
- Not all companies offer the same policy coverage and terms
To exemplify, one company may tell you that a "non-factory" installed stereo is automatically covered under a policy as long as it is in the dashboard. Another company may say that a "non-factory" stereo must be added as special equipment to insured's policy. Both are correct. This is confusing!
When a friend tells you about his or her policies or experiences, never assume the same will be true for you. So, before you have a problem, and find out (too late) that your policy isn't what you thought, take the time to read your policy and / or call your agent for advice.
If you do not have a policy to read, your insurances company should be happy to provide you with one. Do not drive without insurance! The consequences usually far out weigh the (money spent to pay the premium)
Years of experience have taught me that one of the most common questions can be answered by simply discussing the following items:
The basic policy - what th common coverage's are; how to find out what coverage you have and who may or may not be covered to drive your vehicle.
How Insurance Is Rated, or in other words, How Price is Determined. What factors are taken into account; why does it cost so much and, why does your neighbor pay more or less than you do for insurance?
After we understand the policy and how it is rated, we will discuss How to SHop Arround and what are the common pitfalls you should wacth out for when shopping for auto insurance.
It's only after learning the above can the secrets of SAVING MONEY be revealed and understood. You'll soon be surprised at some of the items your agent may not have disclosed to you when you "signed up" for insurance.
